Amabie Daruma Doll

Imai Daruma made this daruma in image of the ‘Amabie’ to pray for protection from the pandemic. Accoording to the legend, Amabie appeared from the sea, and said to use its likeness if a plague occured. This daruma was made with the same techniques used to traditionally produce daruma dolls in Takasaki. Nowadays, modern designs of daruma are being produced alongside their more traditional counterparts.
