This set comprises five KOMON small plates featuring auspicious motifs: intertwined cherry blossoms, pine, bamboo and plum, waves and plovers, the ‘kotobuki’ character, and a gourd.
It is recommended as a versatile gift for occasions such as weddings, births and housewarmings.
The set is presented in a special box.
Intertwined cherry blossoms… This pattern depicts the vibrant beauty of cherry blossoms, drawn in a single unbroken stroke. It symbolises eternal happiness and enduring bonds.
Pine, Bamboo and Plum… The pine, which retains its green even in winter, symbolises ‘eternal youth and longevity’; the bamboo, which grows rapidly and is highly fertile, symbolises ‘prosperity’; and the plum, which blooms in early spring, is said to symbolise ‘vitality’.
Waves and Plovers… As each wave is fan-shaped, it signifies a widening future; combined with the plover, which flies close to the water’s surface to avoid danger, this forms an auspicious motif.
The ‘Longevity’ motif… The chrysanthemum symbolises ‘eternal youth and longevity’, the arabesque pattern signifies ‘continuous good fortune and longevity’, and the hemp leaf represents ‘connection’.
The gourd… As the gourd bears many seeds, it signifies the prosperity of descendants; furthermore, as it tends to twine around objects, it is said to be a symbol of thriving business.
